German Language Interview With Dr. Hans Greuel

This video is in German, and it is very interesting how Julian Cowan Hill and Dr. Greuel say very similar things about tinnitus. I plan to have a translation available within 6 months. (2017 note from dainis: ha ha, that goal was from 2009! LOL! great info though!)

Note From 2017 Nov 29
Well, we weren’t able to finance a translation yet, but I just listened to portions of the interview again. It contains precise, condensed, and particularly powerful information about the nature of tinnitus and not only what a patient can do about it, but how therapists can approach treating tinnitus.

  1. Hi Dainis,

Is there a chance the translation will be there soon?:-) Cause I got really interested in this therapy…

So it would be very helpful.

    Thanks,

    Edv

  2. Hello Dainis, just found this site and registered. Since you have taken the course “Biomentale Therapie”, do you mind a few questions? If anything can get you in trouble just don’t answer 😉
From Dr. Greuel’s book I know about most of the background that he teaches. What is not explained in the book is the “mental training” part of the therapy. Could you explain what you learned? What are the images, words etc. that are visualized during such an exercise? How exactly are the Tinnitus reflexes “de-conditioned”?
    Thanks! Martin

    1. basically, it is a pavlovian de-training. you un-learn a learned response.

so let’s say you have a psycho-immuno-nervous-physiological system. or something along those lines.

well, instead of salivating when the bell rings, you train your blood flow to increase, and for you to be relaxed, when you hear specific music, or when you feel the pulse in your fingertips. then, however many years later, you can just think about the feeling of your pulse in your fingertips, and your ears get nice and warm, the blood flow increases, and you feel more relaxed.

i’d say that it is the kind of therapy that works better, if you have confidence in it based on the description. it might not be the best solution for a bitter skeptic 🙂 LOL

bitter skeptics may be best served by beginning very specifically on the body. on, for example, stuff like spinal alignment, diet, massage, possibly pH balance & toxicity — basically measurable physical metrics. sometimes, when an individual exhausts his or her known physical parameters, that’s only when mind over matter turns into an area of investigation.

but i’d say “biomental training” is exactly that: training that teaches you the skill of mental control over your biology. it’s not hard then to apply that skill to other parts of your body, for example.

i liked it, though i know one person, who did not. he said “i learned that i need to live with my tinnitus.” ok, well, if tinnitus is “his” then he owns it, doesn’t he?

and not everyone is interested in that kind of distance from a symptom.

  3. Thanks for the explanation! I am debating myself whether or not I should order the remote version of the training. On the one hand I do believe that the therapy has its merits, and the theory behind it rings true for me. On the other hand I wonder if this can work over Skype and with MP3 files.

How exactly do you get your ears “nice and warm”? I can easily do this for my arm, my hands or even my feet by lying on my back and concentrating on the blood flow. But so far I never felt my ears getting warm. What are the images you conjure in your head to make this happen?

One more question: What do you mean by “distance from a symptom”?

    1. by distance from a symptom, i mean no longer saying “my tinnitus.” when people have an illness or a symptom, they often personalize it — they make it their own. “my migraines” are killing me today…

so personally, i told myself — eh — i kinda don’t want tinnitus to be “mine.” doesn’t sound that pleasant to me. so then i moved it to “the tinnitus i occasionally hear.”

i can even say: the healthy warning signal that tells me i’ve been too stressed lately…

what do you want to call “your” tinnitus LOL?

want to keep calling it “your tinnitus,” or maybe would switching to “the healthy warning signal i hear right now” offer some relief.

      — i have not tried the remote version of the BioMental Training system. i went to Düsseldorf for 2 weeks and allowed these hypnotic suggestions to influence me. now, when i do the exercises, the ears heat up. LOL. the same way the dogs started salivating when they heard the bell — my ears heat up!

i just tried it — yes i can still do it! 🙂

      it’s kind of fun really.

i can also “send” heat to other parts of my body if i feel like it, which is good for giving massages!
